Lavin undergoes prostate cancer surgery

St. Johns coach Steve Lavin has had successful surgery to treat prostate cancer. The 47-year-old Lavin underwent the surgery Thursday at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. According to Lavins physicians, the surgery went as planned and there were no complications. Lavin is expected to return to his full-time coaching responsibilities after a recovery period.

Calhoun: UConn talent better for 2011-12

Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun says he has more talent this season than he had on the team that won the national championship in April. Calhoun made the comment before a dinner at which the 2010-11 Huskies received their national championship rings. Colorado suspends 5 defensive players

Colorado coach Jon Embree has suspended five defensive players indefinitely for violating unspecified team rules. The suspended players include defensive backs Josh Moten, Ayodeji Olatoye, Parker Orms and Paul Vigo, along with linebacker Liloa Nobriga. Orms was the only starter among the group, but didnt play last weekend due to a leg injury.
